Invited To The Google Wave Party
By Rick
This must be the week for me to get invites to try new online stuff out. A few days ago Twitter granted me access to test its new “Lists” feature. And today I finally got what some people are calling the toughest “ticket” to get anywhere. No, I’m not talking about a ticket to Michael Jackson’s movie “This Is It.” (actually I have seen it, I give it two thumbs up)
What I’m talking about is Google Wave! For months the online buzz around “The Wave” has reached levels that I haven’t seen since the pre-iPhone hype from a few years ago. For those still in the dark about the Google’s latest innovation this is how the search engine giant describes it: “Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.”
The reason people are excited about Google Wave is because real-time search (RTS) has become a critical element for web use. RTS is the primary reason Twitter has exploded to the levels that it has
Just as it did when it launched its email service in 2004, Gmail, not everyone can ride the “Wave” right off the bat. You have to be invited. Since invitations have been hard to come by, some people who have been given wave access are selling their golden tickets on Ebay for well over $100. So far I have no plans to sell my invite!!! Plus, selling on Ebay may actually be a no-no.
I’ll be digging into Google Wave and will offer some type of review soon. In the meantime you can check out the Google Wave YouTube video below or you can read this very good write-up of Google Wave, Twitter Lists and a few other web gadget goodies.

Rick, Last Friday you said that you would give invites to the first 5 people that left a comment on your blog. I left a comment on Friday under your 11/3 article, which looks like it’s been removed. Can you please send me a Wave invite?
